Welcome to the common European data space for cultural heritage

Bringing cultural heritage collections together

Introducing the data space

As a flagship initiative funded by the European Union, the data space enables the sharing and reuse of cultural heritage data across Europe.

Built on cutting-edge technical infrastructure, it offers a suite of tools, standards and frameworks, supported by a vibrant and collaborative community.

Led by the Europeana Initiative, the data space empowers cultural heritage institutions and Member States to embrace and drive digital transformation.

Contribute your collections

Cultural heritage institutions can contribute to the data space by sharing their collections through Europeana.eu. In doing so, institutions will expand the reach and visibility of their collections.

Institutions are supported through the data sharing process with tailored guidance and specialised resources from the dedicated aggregators who make up the Europeana Aggregators' Forum. They are empowered to share data openly, allowing it to be easily reused and enjoyed by diverse audiences.

Explore the collections on Europeana.eu

Europeana.eu is the primary platform for discovering cultural heritage collections in the data space. It provides multilingual access to over 60 million digitised items from cultural heritage institutions across Europe, including books, paintings, maps, manuscripts, and audiovisual and 3D media.

With powerful search and discovery features, curated editorials and thematic explorations, audiences can navigate and uncover connections within Europe’s cultural heritage.

Access collections using the APIs

The APIs enable users to search and access digital cultural heritage objects available on Europeana.eu, and to build applications using rich cultural heritage collections. The APIs provide access to structured metadata, media links and contextual information.

Prepare your collection for use and reuse

Work across the data space contributes to the digital transformation of Europe’s cultural heritage sector. Discover projects driving innovation in areas such as AI and 3D, tools that support collaboration across the data space, events that build skills and foster connections, and the latest news from the data space.
